This example of our remarkable bubblers "boils" in response to heat from its bulbs, which may be dimmed or brightened as you see fit. It will burble away on its own in an enchanting manner for hours; once the liquid rises to the top after quite some time, simply cup your hand around the top bulb; the heat of your palm will return the liquid to the bottom to burble up again. Below is a demonstration of our Thermodynamic bubblers in action:

How it works: As the heat from the bulbs warms the liquid (Ethyl alcohol) in the lower vial, it turns some of it into vapor. The natural expansion of the vapor up toward the cool end of the vial forces the remaining liquid up as well, creating a "boiling" effect. Cupping a warm hand around the top of the vial reverses the effect by reducing the temperature differential between the two ends of the vial; gravity then takes over to bring the remaining liquid downward again. The vial sits in a flexible pivot stand, so if it takes a bump, it avoids breaking and can be easily set upright again.
